Key Responsibilities
- Support on media rights matters for Men's National Team Football, Women's Football, Youth Competitions and Futsal as well as archive footage licensing. This will include liaising with, and monitoring the output of, appointed media rights agencies in respect of sales processes for the award of media rights worldwide. Activities include review of tender/contractual documentation and advising UEFA stakeholders on legal matters (primarily, contract, IP and competition law). In certain cases (for example, archive licensing), the candidate will also be required to draft and negotiate appropriate content licensing agreements.
- Support on sponsorship and licensing matters for Men's National Team Football, Women's Football, Youth Competitions, Futsal, cross-competition corporate packages (e.g. medical partner, referee partner, sustainability partner, Ballon d'Or sponsorships). This will involve reviewing and, in some cases, drafting and negotiating contractual documentation and advising UEFA Marketing on any specificities or risks related to particular deals.
- Be the main legal point of contact for the marketing activities team. This will involve providing legal assistance on a wide range of marketing matters including RFIs, RFPs, high-value agency agreements, prize draws and competitions, talent procurement, social media campaigns, image rights, onsite and online marketing activations and media buying arrangements.
- Assist on other miscellaneous matters including in respect of UEFA's anti-piracy programme, media research & monitoring arrangements, media-related corporate matters (e.g. Article 48) and commercial regulation changes etc. There is also an opportunity to support UEFA's onsite rights protection programme during Club Finals and major tournaments.
- Protect UEFA's overall interests from a legal and business affairs perspective.
- Cooperate and communicate with other lawyers in the Commercial Legal Services Unit (and the rest of the Legal Affairs division) to ensure the coordination and consistency of UEFA's policies and compliance with UEFA's commercial programmes and projects.
- Cooperate with the Procurement unit, which oversees the application of UEFA's procurement-related governance regulations and framework.
Requirements
Experience:
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 2 to 4 years post-qualification experience working on sports commercial matters (e.g. commercial contract drafting and advisory experience).
- We are also open to qualified lawyers (of a comparable level of experience) who may bring relevant expertise from different fields and who demonstrate a clear interest, understanding and enthusiasm for commercial sport.
- In both cases, we are looking for individuals who are highly versatile and comfortable working across different types of tasks, able to adapt quickly to changing priorities and with a strong desire to contribute wherever needed across the unit.
Education:
- Qualified lawyer with approximately 2 to 4 years post-qualification experience
Languages:
- Written and oral English ability must be excellent. All documentation and communications will be in English meaning the candidate must be able to operate comfortably, and draft, at the highest levels of legal English.
- Any additional language would be an asset
Other requirements:
- Experience in drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts and providing advice on commercial law issues.
- Ability to provide clear, concise and practical advice after reviewing a range of documentation.
- Excellent technical legal skills and knowledge particularly in contract, IP, advertising and competition law.
- Ability to liaise and collaborate with stakeholders across UEFA and appointed commercial rights agencies.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Project management skills.
- Strong and consistent attention to detail.
- Team spirit, client-orientation and professionalism.
