OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME
The objective of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is to foster an effective global research effort on infectious diseases of poverty in which disease-endemic countries play a pivotal role. The objective of the Research for Implementation (IMP) unit is to foster partnerships and collaborations in order to develop, evaluate and optimize intervention and implementation research that generates evidence for the control and/or elimination of diseases of poverty.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
1) To lead the implementation of the RKI project mentioned previously, provide overall project management, ensure delivery of project objectives on time, on budget and within scope, including adherence to timelines for project reporting; coordinate and contribute to the delivery of technical support to the WARN-CARN-TB network and National TB programmes involved in this project in
(i) summarizing all findings of the COVID-19 impact assessment conducted as part of the RKI project
(ii) for the development of a DHIS2 package and any additional digital innovations (i.e. UiO/ IT companies or software developers), in collaboration with the WHO Global TB department
(iii) to maintain dialogue between all partners involved in the RKI project across the 3 levels of WHO and with external partners to avoid duplications and facilitate synergy among the activities of partners.
(iv) to coordinate the publishing of a training manual for the DHIS2 component and an operational guidance document to support NTPs in conducting an impact evaluation (in English, French and Portuguese).
(v) to promote the RKI project through oral and written communications, with particular attention to documenting the progress of the RKI project on the TDR website.
2) To provide support for the coordination, the promotion of the ShORRT initiative and provide technical assistance to the NTP and country teams of Nigeria and the Republic Democratic of Congo and the WHO regional office of the West pacific region to set up country-specific quality control systems for ensuring that the research projects are conducted in compliance with the principles of Good Clinical Practice.
3) To coordinate, in collaboration with the West and Central Africa regional Network for TB control (WARN-CARN-TB), the WHO Global TB department, the Union and Damien foundation, the launch of a call for proposals for the conduct of OR/IR projects aiming at evaluating the impact of implementing social protection measures for TB patients; to coordinate and provide support for the development of the selected projects, their conduct and dissemination of results through oral and/or written publication.

5) To contribute to IMP's ongoing activities with the WARN-CARN-TB and other IMP duties/activities such as reporting activities when required and performing other relevant tasks as appropriate.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education
**Desirable**: University degree at the PhD level in a health research-related field relevant to the position
Experience
**Essential**: A minimum of 7 years experience in working in infectious disease control and surveillance in a low
- and middle-income setting. A minimum of 7 years experience in global health and TB at the international level, including research on social protection for vulnerable populations.Experience with District Health Information System version 2 (DHIS2-TB) and the use of digital platforms to support disease surveillance and control efforts. Demonstrated experience supporting research and capacity-building activities in low
- and middle-income settings. Proven experience in supporting national TB programmes in surveillance and/or the conduct of research activities. Experience in managing multi-country public health projects
**Desirable**: Knowledge of TB disease and patient management. Experience working in West and Central Africa. Experience/familiarity with the WARN-CARN-TB network. Experience working in or with the WHO Global TB department and the WHO regional offices.
**Skills**:Demonstrated project management skills as well as good knowledge of operational / implementation research for TB.
Solid understanding of WHO and TDR functioning and mandate.
Strong organizational skills.
Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary environment, with multi-sectoral stakeholders, to coordinate multi-sectoral stakeholders and accomplish tasks with multiple objectives.
Ability to work well within a team.
S/He must be solution-oriented with demonstrated ability to work constructively with people of different backgrounds and orientations, demonstrates respect for differences and ensures that all can contribute.
