**Requisition ID**: 20833
**Region**: Europe (HQ)
**Contract type**: Traineeship
What we do
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) works worldwide to provide protection and humanitarian assistance to people affected by conflict and armed violence. We take action in response to emergencies and, at the same time, promote respect for international humanitarian law. We are an independent and neutral organization, and our mandate stems essentially from the Geneva Conventions of 1949. We work closely with National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and their International Federation to ensure a concerted, rational, and rapid humanitarian response to the needs of the victims of armed conflict or any other situation of internal violence. We advise and coordinate the international activities conducted in these situations.
Context
Within its global Economic Security (EcoSec) approach in conflict-affected countries, the ICRC implements Relief, Livelihood, and Structural Support Programs to maintain, restore or improve food
- and economic security at the household level. The ICRC's EcoSec programs are multifaceted and use in-kind assistance, cash, vouchers, and services to assist conflict-affected people in a timely and flexible way to meet their crucial needs and expenditures in a balanced and dignified manner. The ICRC provides emergency food and non-food items; supports nutrition programmes; delivers agricultural and veterinary or livestock-related activities; and supports income generation.
At ICRC headquarters, the EcoSec Unit defines mentorship, policies, tools and templates to support operational teams throughout the result-based management cycle, including assessing needs, planning, crafting, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating quality humanitarian responses.
