**Context**:
Background Information

The Department of Strategic Planning and Organizational Performance (DPP) is responsible for

consolidating IOM’s efforts to strengthen planning and reporting, including supporting the

Deputy Director General for Management and Reform to deliver on the reforms under the

Internal Governance Framework, such as the Business Transformation initiative.

The Risk Management Unit (ERM) oversees the development and implementation of the

institutional risk management framework, including adopting risk appetite statements and

protocols for reporting risk exposures to the DG and across the Organization. The risk

management methodology consists of six critical elements in line with the ISO 31000:2018:
communication and consultation; establishing scope, context, criteria; risk assessment; risk

treatment; monitoring and review; and recording and reporting. These steps are applied across

**the whole organization**: at the project level, at the programme /unit level (i.e., Country

Office/Programme, Regional Office/Department); and at the institutional level.

Supervision

Under the overall supervision of the Chief Risk Officer and the direct supervision of the Risk

**Officer. The Intern will pursue the following duties**:
**Core Functions / Responsibilities**:
1. Assist in the rollout of IOM’s revised Risk Management Framework in IOM Headquarters,

Regional and Country Offices to streamline and strengthen IOM’s risk management practices.

2. Ensure proper documentation of critical information associated with risk management,

including updating risk registers and risk assessments of departments, projects, and offices as

necessary.

3. Participate in relevant meetings concerning risk management, ensuring that crucial

discussion points and follow up actions are explicitly highlighted.

4. Assist in developing and rolling out guidance and knowledge management materials to

ensure that risk management capacity is enhanced. This may include the creation of short

videos and graphics to enhance awareness.

5. Assist in visualizing data and preparing presentation materials where required.

6. Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Chief Risk Officer.

**Required Qualifications and Experience**:
Education
- Enrolled in the last year of / graduated from a Master’s degree, preferably in Business

Administration, Finance, Accounting, Law, Social Sciences, Development Studies, or a related

field from an accredited academic institution.
- Professional certification as a chartered accountant (CA) or certified public accountant (CPA),

Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Association of Chartered Certified

Accountants (ACCA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or equivalent Risk Management

certification from the Institute of Risk Management (IRM) is considered an asset.

Experience
- A first relevant experience, either during or after studies, is desirable.

**Skills**:

- Thematic knowledge on risk management;
- Demonstrated conceptual and analytical thinking abilities;
- Excellent drafting and public speaking skills;
- Dedicated and proactive attitude, a good communicator with proven organizational and

interpersonal skills and respect for individual and cultural differences;
- Eye for detail, ability to monitor and follow up on pending matters within agreed deadlines.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of Spanish

and/or French is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process,
