In the frame of an MSCA ITN-DN project, we offer a fully funded 3 years PhD position in Vevey, Switzerland, with enrollment in a PhD program of Technical University Hamburg Harburg Germany, under the supervision of Pr. Thomas Rung.

Your mission:

- Develop an optimization framework based on the lagrangian numerical method SPH by deriving and implementing an adjoint version of the ANDRITZ in-house SPH software
- Use the optimization framework for improving design of Pelton hydraulic turbines

Your profile:

- Excellent Master'degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial/Applied Mathematics or Scientific Computing
- Clear focus on Computational Fluid Dynamics using SPH method and fluid dynamic optimization approaches. Experience in industrial CFD is an asset
- Background and knowledge of High-Performance Computing methods, sound background in physics of fluids, proven background in different programming paradigms
- Excellent communication as well as proven language capabilities and team working skills. Applicants must be able to communicate fluently in English, in oral and written form
- Experience in the use of HPC-systems, coding competencies in C/C++/CUDA.
