**Job Description**:
As an intern you will have the opportunity to contribute to one of MindMaze’s key Neuroscience R&D projects over a period ranging from 3 to 6 months with the possibility to extend it to a Msc. thesis.
A critical ability of immersive virtual reality (IVR) in the context of neurorehabilitation is to fully immerse the user into virtual environments to manipulate sensory cues during training protocols. These features can be fully exploited only when using a head-mounted display (HMD), as it enables first person-perspective of a virtual body representation. Within this context, eye tracking technology allows monitoring of the exploration strategies of healthy people or brain damaged patients in immersive environments. Eye tracking may be also used to interact with the environment based on user’s responses. However, most eye tracking solutions provide generic calibration procedures that are not suitable for a neurological population. The main objective of this project is to develop tools and metrics to capture relevant eye tracking data and to link them to behavioral measures of performance during VR rehabilitation activities and standard clinical tasks in order to recommend personalized treatments. The project is run in collaboration with the Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation Service of CHUV.
**Your mission**:
- Develop tools to collect, tag, sort, analyze and visualize data from a virtual reality platform, including game performance and head/eye tracking devices, as well as other data sources (clinical, behavioral)
- Analyze data with respect to activity performance metrics and clinical data
- Contribute to the design of adaptive and personalized training strategies based on the analyzed data
- Document all the development, recordings and findings
- Write a final report for the project results
Qualifications*
Skills that we look out for are amongst: *
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Life Sciences, Data Science, Mathematics or equivalent
- Excellent knowledge in at least one numerical computing programming language (Python, Matlab, R)
- Strong analytical and statistical skills
- Experience and interest in data extraction and management
- Min B2 level of French and English
**Icing on the cake**:
- Previous experience in analysing data from experimental studies in psychophysics / neuropsychology and/or virtual reality and/or eye tracking
- Good experience with Unity and Git/Bitbutcket
- Demonstrable interest on data visualization
- Demonstrable interest for development focusing on the patient’s care and clinical interest
