Zurich, Schweiz Oculus Vollzeit

We are looking for a senior human computer interaction leader to inform our work on input and interaction for AR/VR. The XR Input team covers research in core tracking (hand tracking, body tracking, object tracking, sensor fusion), action recognition (hand-object interaction, gesture recognition), new text input technologies (statistical text decoding) as well as shipping on-device runtimes and developer surfaces (Interaction SDK).Fundamentally, we think of AR and VR as new computing platforms, different from PCs and phones. And just like input and interaction is different on PCs (WIMP) and phones (multi-touch), we think it'll be different for AR and VR. Our team is working to define the input modalities and interaction models that will power the next major computing platform. We have started by making computer-vision-based hand tracking a first class input for VR. We are adding additional input capabilities by tracking more of the human body, interacting objects, and fusing with other sensors. On top of this, we are building action recognition technologies that decode user intent whether that’s in VR or in the real world via MR or AR. Finally, text input is a key part of any general purpose computing platform, and we are investing in novel, highly efficient text entry solutions. The XR Input team is a full-stack team spanning research, incubation and productization (including on-device inference), from HW sensor selection to high-level UI toolkits. We are looking for a human computer interaction specialist who is comfortable working with computer vision and machine learning technologies to drive direction on input and interaction. We embrace both researchers who have a history of incubating work towards product as well as engineers with previous research experience.

**HCI Research Scientist Responsibilities**:

- Work with leadership, computer vision researchers, and cross-functional teams to develop and pursue a vision for next-generation human computer interaction.
- Deliver zero-to-one technologies from early research through productization.
- Jointly optimize user and developer experience across the full technology stack, from sensor selection to developer surfaces

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Experience working well on ambiguous problems and managing the uncertainty of research work.
- Mentorship experience ranging from interns, software engineers and junior research scientists.
- PhD in Computer Science or related field.
- Subject matter expert demonstrated through publications, patents, or shipped products.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in human-computer interaction research or engineering.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Experience thinking strategically and executing methodically in an entrepreneurial environment
- Experience with AR/VR interaction
