Research Scientist, Device Automation

Minimum qualifications:
- PhD in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Experience with Operating Systems research.
- Experience with Python, C++, and Machine Learning libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, JAX, PyTorch, or others).
Preferred qualifications:
- Experience with conducting research or publishing on the topic of device automation.
- Experience with best practices for preparing training data and creating datasets.
- Experience in designing and deploying automation on web browsers or mobile operating systems.
**About the job**:
From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, our research scientists work on real-world problems that span the breadth of computer science, such as machine (and deep) learning, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analysis, improving compilers for mobile platforms, as well as core search and much more.
As a Research Scientist, you'll also actively contribute to the wider research community by sharing and publishing your findings, with ideas inspired by internal projects as well as from collaborations with research programs at partner universities and technical institutes all over the world.
The Device Automation team develops technologies to understand screens and execute commands, and conducts machine learning research on screen understanding and task planning.

**Responsibilities**:
- Develop and deploy machine learning models that can automatically generate actions to operate mobile and other devices.
- Advance research in understanding of device context and automatically translating user intent into executable actions on devices.
- Collaborate with Cerebra and other Research and DeepMind teams, and partner with Google Assistant and Android product teams to develop automation technologies to improve accessibility and Google products.
- Provide technical and research guidance to junior engineers and researchers on automation technologies.
