About the team you are joining

IATA's Sustainability and Economics division core objective is to provide our airline members with the sustainability and economic analyses, tools, and support that allows them to meet present and future obligations, measure themselves against the overall industry’s performance, and that supports their advocacy in the regional and country markets. Our division aims to be the leading research body in terms of air transportation, and we have a central role in helping to shape the thinking of the industry. We work with airlines, regulators, and civil society to develop and implement policies, standards, and solutions that support the sustainable development of air transport and mitigate its impact on the environment.
You will report to the Assistant Director Climate Policy. In this role, you will contribute to the development of models and analysis to assess the impact of different policy options. This work will inform and support IATA’s positions regarding governmental policy proposals pertaining to climate change and the energy transition as it applies to aviation.

What your day would be like

Your role requires the capacity to deliver detailed assessments of environmental policy proposals and the ability to quantify the economic impact on individual airlines or states and regions. In this process, it is also required to track policies supporting our industry’s progress to the Net Zero 2050 goal. Specific tasks include:

- Keeping abreast of latest developments in international standards and requirements for aviation, including developments in ICAO (CORSIA, LTAG), Europe (Fit for 55), and other relevant national regulations with potentially global impacts.
- Maintaining an updated record of key regulatory developments in the areas of decarbonization and SAF policy around the globe, in coordination with Regional Offices.
- Developing and documenting robust databases and reference material.
- Develop models to assess the impact of specific policy initiatives and refine the industry’s position.
- Summarizing relevant regulatory developments to airline experts.
- Preparing presentations to industry meetings.
- Supporting the organization of workshops with member airlines and other stakeholders on topics relating to the decarbonization of aviation.
- Assisting in the preparation of business case documentation.

We would love to hear from you if

1 to 3 years of experience and a university degree in a related discipline, such as environmental science, economics, engineering, etc.
Outstanding qualitative and quantitative analytical skills, experience in managing data sets, and great ease with IT tools and systems.
Experience in the aviation industry with a good understanding of aviation environment and sustainability matters is highly desirable.
Experience from a policy-setting environment, international negotiations, and with assessing policy options would be an advantage.
Your written and spoken English is excellent. Proficiency in additional languages would be an asset.
You are a flexible teammate, have strong interpersonal skills, and enjoy collaboration. You are available to travel occasionally and enjoy working across different cultures.
