News Editor, News Exchange

The EBU is looking for a News Editor, News Exchange based in Geneva.

**ABOUT THE EUROVISION NEWS EXCHANGE**

Eurovision News is a premier distributor of quality news content, a provider of news-related broadcast services and an advocate for public service journalism. Its primary goal is to serve the needs of the EBU members according to its editorial standards and principles.

The Eurovision News Exchange has shared content between its Members every day since 1961. It draws on the newsgathering resources of more than 70 EBU Members, sublicensees and media partners worldwide, as well as the Eurovision News Events team and international organizations. It provides round-the-clock access to live and edited news and sports stories in video and audio, as they happen. This unique network connects European public service newsrooms operating in more than 50 countries by:

- receiving, organizing and distributing high quality content drawn from the newsgathering departments of its members
- negotiating access for Members to content from a range of other trustworthy news sources and international organizations.
- offering on average 50 cleared pieces of content from social media every day
- negotiating sports news rights on behalf of all Members

The spirit of solidarity and cooperation among our Members allows us to provide the most comprehensive, diverse and timely coverage of news events.

The News Exchange is based in Geneva but has staff and/or operations in Washington DC, New York, Moscow and Rome. The Eurovision News team is multi-lingual and multi-cultural.

**PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION**

The News Editor, News Exchange manages the day-to-day operations and is the editorial lead for a team of News Producers. Their mission is to ensure the selection and provision of editorially strong and relevant content with clear copyright and editorial information.

**YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES**
- Demonstrated experience of having worked as a news editor leading news team in a broadcast setting, preferably with a focus on international news. Also desired: Experience in working with digital news teams and an understanding of their specific needs and requirements.
- Strong journalistic skills (including news judgement and writing in English) and wide-ranging knowledge of and interest in global news and current affairs.
- Ability to prioritise tasks and those of the team under pressure.
- Great communicator in all circumstances and situations.
- Makes good decisions calmly and quickly, even when limited information is available.
- Inspirational personality and strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Willing to work on shifts, nights and weekends as required, sometimes at short notice. Able to work remotely as well as in the office. Willing to travel if required and work long hours in the field

for example during annual meetings with Members.
- Experience as a journalist working in international news and in a multiplatform environment.
- Understanding of copyright and the implications of media
- Understanding of the unique needs of public service media newsrooms.
- Knowledge of and interest in social media and digital media solutions.
- Outstanding organisational and logístical skills
- Understanding and implementation of journalistic principles and ethics
