Geneve, Schweiz CERN Vollzeit

Company Description
- Diversity has been an integral part of CERN's mission since its foundation and is an established value of the Organization._

**Job Description**:
Are you a mechanical technician looking for a challenging professional experience to further your career? If so, joining CERN’s **TTE** programme may be the perfect opportunity for you.

The mandate of the Mechanical and Materials Engineering Group in the Engineering Department is to provide to the CERN community, specific engineering solutions combining mechanical design, fabrication and material sciences.

Historically the group maintains and develops the know-how on the mechanical construction of beam accelerator components and physics detectors, involving a large spectrum of highly specialized activities, including on-site facilities and sub-contracting. The Mechanical and Materials Engineering Group welcomes the largest design office at CERN.

The Design Office is in charge of mechanical design activities required for CERN projects, such as the study and development of new products based on conceptual, engineering, detailed and manufacturing design (from parametric 3D modelling to 2D drafting), and structural, thermal, fluid-dynamic, shock and vibration analyses.

These activities are carried out relying on a large range of CAD and CAE tools, mainly Dassault Systèmes, CATIA v5, SmarTeam, Ansys Multiphysics and Workbench.

**Functions**
- Use CATIA to produce 3D models and 2D construction drawings of components for accelerators and detectors;
- Carry out mechanical sizing of components using analytical or numerical methods;
- Design components and propose solutions for different mechanical problems.
- Prepare 3D models and 2D drawings. Use the ISO norms for dimensioning and tolerance;
- Procure components and follow the construction of the elements designed.

**Qualifications**:
In order to qualify for a place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements:

- You have a Mechanical Technical Diploma or equivalent in Industrial Design of mechanical components (careers.cern/ttediplomas), and no more than 4 years' relevant experience after finishing your diploma;
- If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN;
- If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.
- You should have at least a working knowledge of English or French.

**Specific skills required for this job**:

- Experience in design and manufacturing of mechanical components;
- Ability to perform analytical computation of simple mechanical structures;
- Knowledge of one or more CAD system(s).

Additional Information

CERN would very much like to benefit from your expertise, commitment and passion. In return, CERN will provide you with:

- On-the-job and formal training at CERN as well as in-house language courses for English and/or French;
- A monthly stipend of 4599CHF Swiss Francs per month (net of tax);
- Coverage by CERN’s comprehensive health scheme (for yourself, your spouse and children), and membership of the CERN Pension Fund;
- Depending on your individual circumstances: an installation grant, family, child and infant allowances as well as travel expenses to and from Geneva;
- 2,5 days of paid leave per month.

**This is how you can apply**:

- A CV **(mandatory)**;
- A scanned copy of your latest relevant qualification (or a screenshot of the latest academic transcript obtained if the diploma is not yet obtained) **(mandatory)**;
- At least one reference letter (from a professor or previous employer) giving an overview of your academic and/or professional achievements. This should be as broad as possible **(optional).
