The thesis is on the development and the implementation of fast equation solvers. The equations arise from FEM discretized electromagnetic models like DC conduction, or the Eddy current model. The results of this thesis will be used for simulations of plasma-arcs in in circuit breakers in an in-house calculation tool. The student will be integrated in the Theoretical and Computational Methods Team at ABB Research in Dättwil and will collaborate with scientists as well as engineers from the product development.
**Your responsibilities**:
- C++ implementation of multi-grid-based equation solvers in the in-house tool
- Testing and benchmarking of the novel solvers with existing solution strategies
- Design of novel solution strategies if necessary
- Documentation
**Your background**:
- At least 2 years studies of Computational science and engineering, or an equivalent discipline
- Interest in Computational Electromagnetics with FEM
- Familiarity with C++
- Ability to work in an international team
- Fluency in written and spoken English
