Director, Technical Facility Design Lead

Lonza is looking for a Director, Technical Facility Design Lead. This is a key leadership position providing oversight and ownership of all facility design and associated equipment to provide a GMP environment for pharmaceutical production. You will own the facility design guidelines for specific production environments and collaborate with internal and external agents to develop further guidance. You will provide oversight to existing guidance to ensure it is current and compliant as well as ensuring adherence to the guidance in active large capital projects as well as be responsible for developing and implementing Lonza’s sustainability program within SGIE. You will oversee a number of positions that provide expertise in the equipment and systems that contribute to the maintenance of the GMP facility (e.g. Clean utilities, CIP etc.) and coordinate with other Leads from Bio-Engineering to integrate initiatives seamlessly.

This position will report into and coordinate with the global Head of Bio-Engineering to ensure that core technologies are harmonized and implemented effectively globally across all Strategic growth projects.

Directs and oversees project priorities and delivery per schedule via Senior Engineers and Manufacturing Project Specialists.

Key responsibilities:

- Document generation management from initial draft through to final approved versions with various levels of responsibilities depending on document type.
- Strategic support for Internal Project Team activities including project initiations and operational readiness
- Critical utilities modeling/mass balance, Utilities strategy (e.g. redundancy), facility layout and HVAC strategy, strategic input to Site Master Plans.
- Provide technical input in support of equipment procurement including bid package preparation, bid evaluation, vendor selection
- Leadership of cross functional teams consisting of Internal Lonza customers such as Bio-Engineering, MSAT, Site Engineering, and Quality Assurance to properly identify design needs
- Lead and drive strategy decisions as a part of the extended leadership and project teams. Lead cross-functionally with management, support departments, and contractors to achieve project aspirations and KPIs.
- Supervise, train and mentor staff. Create a high-performance that emphasizes strengths-based execution, accountability, open communication, people development and continuous improvement.

Key requirements:

- Leadership/management in pharmaceutical manufacturing with experience in aseptic processing or biologic bulk drug substance delivery
- Preference to have progressive experience in capital projects in diverse biopharmaceutical areas
- Design and operation of Biopharmaceutical facilities, preferably Upstream Processing, in both manufacturing and support systems (cGMP manufacturing, pilot plant & laboratories)
- High level understanding of Facility design and GMP requirements as well as of Clean and dirty utilities
- Experienced in implanting sustainability solutions in a corporate environment
