The Pediatric Pneumology Research Group is part of the Lung Precision Medicine (LPM) research program of the Department for BioMedical Research (DBMR) of teh University of Bern and is associated with the Division of Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Allergology at the University Children's Hospital of the Inselspital. We serve as a basic and translational research platform and are involved in research activities covering different respiratory diseases such as primary ciliary dyskinesia, cystic fibrosis, asthma or respiratory viral infections. The DBMR provides state-of-the-art equipment, well maintained in a number of different core facilities.
***The responsibilities**
- We have an open position for a laboratory technician for basic and translational science in the field of paediatric pneumology. The aim of our projects is the investigation the underlying mechanisms of respiratory diseases to pave the way towards a personalized medicine and a better care for patients in the future. A special focus of our group is primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD) for which we offer a Swiss-wide diagnostic service. In particular, the applicant will be involved in the following parts:

- Maintenance of primary cell cultures and performing cell culture experiments
- Molecular biology techniques (e.g. DNA & RNA extraction, PCR, etc.)
- Protein analysis (e.g. Western blotting, flow cytometry, ELISA, etc.)
- different microscopy techniques
- Common lab duties (e.g. preparing material for autoclaving, etc.)
- Support in supervising students for laboratory work
- Administrative tasks (Ordering, billing, organization of appointments for PCD diagnostics)
- Potentially performing nasal brushings on patients
***Your profile**
- Applicants should have a master's degree in life science (or equivalent), or completed training as a laboratory technician (Dipl. Biomed. Analytiker:in or equivalent) and a strong interest in cell culture based research. The position requires fluency in English and German is an advantage.
