Laboratory Technician for Protein Mass Spectrometry

The Analytical Biochemistry Group of Research Bern is seeking to hire a Laboratory Technician for mass spectrometry (MS) to join our team on the Insel Campus.

This position requires extensive hands-on experience in mass spectrometric methods and technology to support projects, maintain equipment, and support new method development and new technology integrations. Enthusiasm, creativity, team spirit and commitment will be essential for achieving team and organisational goals and timelines.

**Main Responsibilities and Accountabilities**:

- Planning, executing, analysing, and documenting LC-MS-based protein analytic workflows in various complex matrices such as blood plasma and other biofluids.
- Responsibility for LC-MS instrumentation operation, troubleshooting and maintenance.
- Authoring lab procedures, protocols, and SOPs.
- Support team scientists and collaborate in cross-functional teams to support pre-clinical and clinical studies.

**Qualifications & Experience**:

- Apprenticeship in chemistry, biology or related discipline
- Solid hands-on experience with standard MS sample preparation protocols for MS-based protein analytics workflows (experience using lab automation platforms is desirable).
- Solid hands-on experience in operating and maintaining different types of mass spectrometers, preferentially Orbitrap and QTRAP mass spectrometers.
- Solid hands-on experience with MS acquisition and data analysis software.
- General experience in method development, data interpretation, electronic lab notebook usage, and lab organisation.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Proficiency in English
