The Jacobs Center for Productive Youth Development (JCPYD) at the University of Zurich (UZH) is offering two postdoctoral Research Fellows to join its newly established Swiss Evidence in Education Lab (Swiss EdLab). The Swiss EdLab connects researchers in education and developmental science with experts from academia, policy, public education authorities, and practitioners. We are dedicated to translating and disseminating scientific knowledge to provide policymakers with the evidence needed for informed decision-making, advancing equitable learning opportunities for all children, and shaping national and international research and policy.
Key activities of the Swiss EdLab include:
- Translating and disseminating research evidence to stakeholders.
- Training education professionals in data literacy to empower evidence-informed decision-making.
This position offers an exciting opportunity to drive change in education policy, tackle critical social challenges, and connect with a vibrant community of education experts. If you are highly qualified, motivated, and passionate about making a difference, we encourage you to apply**Your responsibilities**:
- Analyze population-based longitudinal data to examine education-related outcomes, including the impact of policy interventions on attainment, final grades, educational trajectories, and other indicators such as cog-nitive and linguistic performance and/or socio-emotional experiences.
- Conduct country-specific analyses aligned with our partners in Switzerland and Europe:
- EU LEARN: Longitudinal Educational Achievements: Reducing Inequalities
- LEAPS: Zurich Learning Progress Study
- Prepare project reports and data documentation, respond to data requests from education authorities.
- Contribute to scientific publications, conferences, and evidence dissemination.
- Co-organize trainings and events for education policy and impact in Switzerland.
- Collaborate with a dynamic network of academics and experts, supported by the JCPYD, the EU Horizon Project LEARN, and the global Jacobs Foundation EdLabs network.
**Your profile**:
- Advanced degree in sociology of education, political science, (developmental) psychology, economics of education, or related fields.
- Proven experience analyzing educational outcomes, including educational trajectories and transitions, achievement inequalities, and final grades, with a focus on mechanisms driving educational disparities across the life course.
- Deep understanding of the Swiss education system and familiarity with relevant social and education-focused indicators.
- Expertise in methodologies and statistical techniques for multilevel and longitudinal research designs.
- Proficiency in handling administrative education data and a strong interest in education research is an as-set.
- Native-level German proficiency; excellent English or French skills are a plus.
- Strong organizational skills, service orientation, and ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
