Our work on
Trade and Geopolitics
is aimed at preventing geopolitical tensions and strategic competition from further undermining international trade cooperation and global trade governance. It proposes to do this by reframing prevailing narratives in terms of the need to rebalance the global economy in order to achieve greater diversification and resilience, rather than singling out any one country or group of countries as a systemic threat from which the rest of the world must decouple or de-risk.
This position will report to the Head Digital Trade and Geopolitics and be part of the broader Trade and Investment Team under the
Center for Regions, Trade and Geopolitics
- This position also calls for regular interactions with other teams, particularly those in Business and Government Engagement roles who interact with the Trade and Investment Team’s partners and constituents.
Reason for hiring:
Trade and Geopolitics comprises a new workstream of heightened strategic importance to the Forum and its partners and constituents. In a world reeling from increasing systems fragmentation and heightened geopolitical tension, we are looking for a talented and motivated Early Career Professional to support this important work.
The Forum believes we are quickly approaching an inflection point where the ability of the global rules-based trading system, to act as a catalyst for continued poverty alleviation, growth and prosperity could suffer irreversible damage. Our work on Trade and Geopolitics seeks to prevent this.- Coordination and support of Trade and Investment Team priorities- Managing communities and guiding workstream outputs- Identifying new potential Forum partners and constituents to contribute to communities and outputs.- Planning and execution of workstream projects and events
Preferred qualification and experience:
- Bachelors and/or masters degree in international relations, international economic law, international economics, political science or a related field.- Up to 2 years relevant work experience in a national government, intergovernmental organization and/or multinational corporation- Previous exposure to and experience in dealing with the rules-based global trading system.
Desired skills:
- Demonstrated ability to manage different stakeholders towards the attainment of identified goals and deliverables such as events and reports.- Demonstrated ability to assess, rank and act on different and sometimes competing priorities in a fast-paced environment where the stakes are high.- Demonstrated understanding of the core issues and fissures of trade and geopolitics and the importance of achieving the Forum’s goals as outlined above.
