The Institute of Molecular and Clinical Ophthalmology Basel (IOB) is seeking a highly motivated **Research Assistant **to join the Single-Cell Genomics Platform.

Single-cell genomics is revolutionizing our understanding of biology, from redefining our understanding of diverse cell types, to translating this knowledge to better understand disease states and their implications for therapeutics. The Research Assistant will be part of the technology platform for single-cell genomics supporting the research groups of IOB.

**Your responsibilities**
- Perform various cell-based and molecular biology assays, including production and purification of AAV vectors
- Cell/organoid tissue culture, including: maintenance, splitting
- Routinely clone into plasmid vectors, including: primer design, PCR, gel extraction, transformation and plasmid DNA prepping
- Perform various NGS-related tasks including: RNA/DNA extraction, sample QC, library preparation
- Operate liquid handling and microfluidic equipment
- Operate Illumina sequencing instruments
- Write and adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Close collaboration with group members and IOB groups

**Requirements**:

- Bachelor's / Master’s Degree in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry or pharmaceutical sciences, preferably with 3-5 years of laboratory experience
- Experience with tissue cultures derived from various mammalian species (human, mouse, etc.). Experience with primary samples is preferred
- Experience with plasmid production / cloning and/or AAV vectors
- Ability to work autonomously and coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- Ability to organize a large number of samples and perform high-throughput sample processing correctly and effectively
- Previous experience with studying proteins in mammalian systems is preferred
- The following additional skills are of advantage (training can be provided): hands-on experience with microfluidics instruments, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy and Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) protocols
- Enthusiasm to establish and optimize new protocols and techniques
- Highly organized and detail-oriented
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Fluency in oral and written English
