Engineering Manager

You will work across multiple of EF’s tours products in which you will help to provide the opportunity for students to experience educational travel experiences across the world each year. This role is embedded in our Operations Engineering team.

As an Engineering Manager (f/m/x) your main goal is to enable your team to deliver high-quality software in a timely fashion that matter to our customers. You will own the team’s deliverables alongside with the product manager and the whole team by collaborating on all aspects of the software lifecycle. Beside this, you are responsible for hiring, continuous improvement, and career development of your engineers to be able to tackle future challenges. You should be a strong leader and team player with strong technical knowledge, who is eager to learn, and has a passion for building products that our customers will love.

**How you will contribute**:

- Work closely with your team and business stakeholders to design and deliver high-value, performant, and innovative software solutions for complex business problems
- Drive the technical vision of the team and the strategic evolution of our systems, including building up a service-oriented architecture
- Contribute technical perspectives to strategic decisions and collaborate on the department OKRs and their initiatives for your team
- Understand and promote a sense of priority and a strong desire to deliver functionality under the aspect of adding business value
- Contribute to the code base and feature implementation by developing software, reviewing work, and participating in creating scalable architectures
- Mentor and coach the engineers in your team, promoting knowledge sharing and experimentation to facilitate a culture of learning and growth
- Drive Agile approaches and processes
- Support the company to grow in a healthy way by creating a culture of continuous learning, constructive feedback, and the driver behind hiring and capacity planning

**Who you are**:

- 2+ years of experience in leading a team with 4 - 7 engineers and understanding the mechanics of a team and career development of software engineers
- 7+ years of professional experience with common languages (such as C#, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, etc.)
- Understand characteristics and trade-offs of programming paradigms such as object-oriented vs functional, or architectural styles like modular monoliths vs. microservices
- A desire to learn new and current technologies and go outside your technical comfort zone, with the pragmatism to find the most optimal solution for the problem
- Strong team player with great communication skills and a passion for collaboration, with the ability to articulate high-level concepts and engage a cross-functional audience
- Empathy, understanding of other disciplines in and around the product and the ability to translate between them and technology
- Interest in using principles and techniques of Domain-Driven Design
