As a highly skilled and creative chemist you will take a leading role in the fast development of new drug targets supporting toxicological and clinical studies. We are seeking an innovative and curious organic chemist with strong retro synthetic skills with a high curiosity about innovative technologies and data & digital based solutions.

This position is based in Basel, Switzerland, in the Technical R&D department of Global Drug Development. Within this organization, Chemical & Analytical Development (CHAD) plays a significant role in the development of processes for manufacturing and analysis of the highest quality drug substances, both small molecules and new chemical modalities.

Your Responsibilities:

- With your expertise and creativity in development of manufacturing processes you take a leading role designing synthetic sequences and processes following the key principles of sustainability
- Processes developed with your contribution will be scalable, robust, and ensure consistently high quality for supplying clinical trials as well as transfer to both, internal commercial operations and external strategic partners. In our labs, your experimental designs will be executed and allow you to interpret and report data and results.
- As a member of cross-functional project teams, you will collaborate closely with our internal and external partners to ensure timely and quality delivery of processes and new drugs to our patients. You will also contribute with relevant process documentation to support filing of health authority dossiers and proactively contribute to knowledge exchange.
- You will also actively participate in scientific exchange groups within Novartis and Academia as well as maintain excellent collaborations with our customers.

**Minimum requirements**

What you'll bring to the role:

- PhD in Synthetic Chemistry or equivalent, experience as Post-Doc in multi-cultural environment is an advantage
- Scientific curiosity coupled with recognized achievements in the field of small molecule synthetic chemistry, experience with synthetic chemistry in water is a plus
- Experience / exposure, or at least willingness to develop in multi-cultural and highly dynamic environment
- Proficiency in English (oral and written) is required, knowledge of German (spoken / written)
- Dedicated, thoughtful and flexible team working skills

Desirable Requirements:

- Excellent knowledge of laboratory and/or technical tools
- Strong willingness to continuously learn and develop new skills, e.g. data science skillset
