About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Materials Engineer to join our team at Optotune. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for driving the development of new materials and technologies to enhance our optical products.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire a team of materials engineers to develop and test new materials for product enhancement and market access.
- Investigate and develop new materials for high-volume manufacturing, with a focus on polymers, thin films, metals, ceramics, coatings, and bonding technologies.
- Select the best materials for high-volume manufacturing and conduct feasibility studies.
- Define and implement structures for materials topics, including handling instructions, safety protocols, knowledge databases, and evaluation frameworks.
- Stabilize manufacturing processes and improve knowledge and accessibility.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including engineering, supply chain, production, and quality, to communicate proactively and manage stakeholders.
Requirements
- MSc degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or equivalent (e.g. mechanical engineering with additional education in materials field).
- 5 years of broad materials development experience, preferably in a high-volume environment.
- Proven experience in formulating polymer-based systems, tailoring mechanical and optical properties.
- Hands-on experience with thermomechanical and optical material characterization methods.
- Knowledge of advanced chemical analysis methods.
- Experience in supporting Operations on materials topics.
- Enthusiasm and aspiration for leadership.

- Strong planner and executer.
- Proficiency in English required, German skills preferred.
