Job DescriptionWe are seeking a highly skilled Legal Affairs Professional to join our team in Geneva. As a key member of our Legal Team, you will play a critical role in supporting our business units worldwide by providing strategic legal advice and solutions. Your expertise will help us navigate complex commercial contracts, partnerships, disputes, programs, and institutional matters.
This is a temporary appointment for 364 days, and you will report directly to the Senior Legal Affairs Specialist in Geneva. You will work closely with other team members, including lawyers based in New York Headquarters, Geneva, Copenhagen, and Brussels.
Responsibilities- Provide substantive legal advice on data protection and privacy matters, including partnerships with governments and international financial institutions, commercial and financial transactions, institutional matters, policy development, human resources, dispute resolution, and more.
- Collaborate with the UNICEF Data Protection Team and other teams across the organization to ensure compliance with data protection regulations.
- Represent the Legal Team in the Data Protection Programme Working Group and provide inputs and advice as necessary.
- Negotiate data protection framework agreements with key partners and data processing agreements at all levels.
- Advise on data breaches and remedial actions, as well as other information security incidents.
To be considered for this role, you must have a minimum of eight years of progressively responsible experience in the practice of law, preferably in international law or commercial law. A post-graduate university law degree (LL.B, LL.M, or J.D.) is required, or a first-level university degree combined with two years of qualifying work experience may be accepted.
You must also have excellent research, writing, and drafting skills, as well as strong verbal communication and negotiation skills. Fluency in English is essential, and proficiency in another official language of the United Nations is highly desirable.
What We OfferAs a valued member of our team, you can expect a competitive salary, ranging from CHF 90,000 to CHF 120,000 per year, depending on your qualifications and experience.
