Job Summary
The Chief Electrician is a key member of the MSC Cruises team, responsible for overseeing and maintaining all electrical equipment on board. This role requires a high level of technical expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Consult with the Staff Engineer to develop and implement electrical maintenance and upkeep procedures.
- Assign and supervise electrical maintenance and repair duties, ensuring that work is executed properly and efficiently.
- Inspect electrical work in progress and on completion, ensuring that manpower is utilized to its fullest extent and that work meets acceptable standards.
- Supervise the use of materials and equipment, ensuring safety for personnel and equipment.
- Train personnel on safe working practices and ensure that functions are fully recognized by each individual.
- Prepare requisitions and spare parts, submitting them to the Staff Engineer for approval.
- Oversee the inventory of materials on hand and on order, ensuring that they are properly labelled, preserved, stowed, and secured.
- Ensure control over the issue and use of materials to prevent waste.
- Operate with consideration for the comfort of guests at all times.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Fluent in oral and written English and Italian, with knowledge of other foreign languages a major advantage.
- High School Graduation with appropriate licenses obtained from certified technical institutes.
- At least 5 years of experience in the position on board cruise ships operating internationally.
- Windows-based computer ability and proven knowledge of MS Office suite.
- Good supervisory skills, crisis, and problem handling.
- Physical integrity and ability to perform tasks that require standing, walking, using hands to touch, handle, or feel, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, lifting and/or moving up to 25 Kg, and adjusting focus.
- STCW95 trainings are compulsory (Basic fire fighting, personal survival techniques, elementary first aid, personal security, and social responsibility).
- Proficiency in security awareness training is required.
- A recognized medical certification is required before starting to work on board.

VISA working permit, Entry and/or Transit VISAs may be required depending on ship itinerary.
