PhD Researcher in Sleep and Driving Performance

Our Project
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our interdisciplinary team at the University of Zurich. Our project aims to develop and validate a driving-simulation-based maintenance of wakefulness test (DS-MWT) to assess the effects of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS) on driving performance.
About the Role
This PhD position will be primarily responsible for conducting two concise complementary randomized-controlled trials (RCTs), further validating the pilot against classical MWTs in obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS)-affected volunteers. The successful candidate will work closely with our team, including PD Dr. med. Esther I. Schwarz from the University Hospital Zurich, to acquire and analyze driving parameters, eye tracking data, EEG-data, and additional performance parameters. The tasks will include acquiring final ethics approval, study organization, data acquisition and analysis as well as publication and presentation of results in peer-reviewed journals and conferences.
About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, dedicated, and creative individual with a strong background in Life Sciences, Biomedicine, Engineering, Psychology, Medicine, or related fields. A Master's degree is required, preferably with proven experience in brain function research. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in working with trial participants and a self-sustained drive in data analysis (statistics in R, data analysis with MatLab, Python).
What We Offer
Apart from a well-structured project and a highly immersive driving simulator with integrated data acquisition for eye tracking and EEG-measurements, we offer the opportunity to coin research and be part of a small, but steadily growing interdisciplinary team of researchers. The position and project are generously funded by institutional means and the Emma-Louise Kessler-Fund. The candidate will either already be accepted or will have to apply and be accepted to one of several available PhD-programs within the first 6 months. In addition, we offer a competitive salary, which reflects the Swiss standard for a PhD researcher (CHF 52'000 - 62'000 per year, depending on qualifications and experience).
