Position Summary: As the Head of Biologics Operations at Visp, you will be accountable for overseeing the current Biologics Operations while spearheading significant capital expansion initiatives, which will involve approximately 1000 additional full-time employees and an investment exceeding CHF 4 billion over the next five years.

This role encompasses a large and intricate operation, employing around 3500 individuals, generating CHF 1.3 billion in revenue, and managing 16 active growth projects with an anticipated growth rate of 20% in the coming years.

Operational Scope: The operations focus on Biologics Drug Substance (DS) and Drug Product (DP), utilizing four distinct technologies: Mammalian, Microbial, Bioconjugates, and Drug Product Services. These technologies span multiple production lines and stages, including cell line construction, process development, clinical manufacturing, and commercial production. You will collaborate closely with various Biologics Business Units to align with their commercial goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Visp Biologics organization to achieve operational excellence and growth objectives while ensuring safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Enhance the Gross Profit Margin to 40% through strategic initiatives.
  • Foster engagement and alignment with Lonza's operational performance expectations and organizational strategy.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance agility, customer focus, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers to ensure successful execution of plans.
  • Contribute to the Cross Visp Site Leadership Team, overseeing the development and implementation of the Visp Site Master Plan and Business Continuity Plan.
  • Mentor and develop the Leadership Team, ensuring both team and individual growth.
  • Communicate effectively with the Visp Biologics organization to inspire and engage employees.
  • Act as a change agent and advocate for Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10 years of leadership experience in GMP manufacturing for biologics DS and/or DP at an industrial scale.
  • Prior experience as a Site Head, preferably managing a site with over 500 employees; multi-site experience is advantageous.
  • International experience across various locations and functions, with a proven track record in managing complex sites.
  • Experience in leading large capital investment projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate a complex stakeholder matrix environment.
  • Proven experience in driving change and enhancing performance simultaneously.
  • Willingness to be located in proximity to the Visp area to ensure on-site presence.
