Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our team at CERN's SY-STI-TCD section. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for designing, constructing, operating, and maintaining beam-intercepting devices essential to our accelerator complex.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and assemble precision mechanical systems in challenging environments.
  • Design devices that withstand high radiation levels during operation, focusing on optimizing both intervention procedures and reliability.
  • Lead mechanical design efforts, perform structural calculations, and manage project progress to ensure the durability and efficiency of our North Area beam intercepting devices.
  • Coordinate the production, assembly, and validation of equipment, as well as participate in commissioning activities before installation.
  • Oversee procuring components, writing technical specifications, and following up on contractors' work to ensure quality and compliance with CERN standards.

Requirements

  • CAD systems, 3D and 2D drawing.
  • Manufacturing processes.
  • Assembling, and testing precision mechanics.
  • Good communication, well-organized with accountability.
  • Working in a team, as well as independently.
  • Fluent in English, the ability to work in French would be an advantage.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Nationality: You are a national of a country.
  • Professional experience: You have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Mechanical Engineering (or a related field) and your highest educational qualification is either a Bachelor's or Master's degree.
  • CERN fellow or graduate contract: You have never had a CERN fellow or graduate contract before.
  • University degree: Applicants without University degree are not eligible.
  • PhD: Applicants with a PhD are not eligible.

  • A monthly stipend ranging between 5134 and 5647 Swiss Francs (net of tax).
