Job Description

Role Summary

The World Health Organization (WHO) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to serve as a Sustainable Business Models Consultant. This role will play a critical part in enhancing the sustainability of the WHO mRNA Technology Transfer programme.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sustainable business models for local production of mRNA vaccines and other biologics in Low and Middle Income Countries (LMICs).
  • Conduct feasibility studies and provide recommendations for program manufacturing partners to enhance their sustainability-related elements.
  • Produce comprehensive stakeholder engagement reports to support the WHO mRNA Technology Transfer programme's policy and sustainability efforts.
  • Contribute to the WHO Health Technology Access Pool (HTAP) expansion by evaluating opportunities for license acquisition and know-how transfer.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Masters degree or higher in public health, life sciences, or related field.
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in developing national or regional plans for local production of medical products, biotech industry, and venture capital for biomanufacturing.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing plans for production of vaccines in Africa.
  • Direct experience of investing in the healthcare sector, preferably within the biopharma/vaccines area.
  • Substantial experience working in, or in collaboration with, intergovernmental organizations.

Skills and Languages

  • Expert technical knowledge in the interface between industrial policy and public health.
  • Excellent technical writing and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural team and maintain effective working relationships with recognized experts and stakeholders.
  • Strong IT skills: Word, Excel, presentation software, databases, and web navigators.
  • Expert knowledge of English.

Location and Travel

Off-site: Home-based. The consultant is expected to travel.

Remuneration and Budget

Band level C - USD 10,500 per month. Travel costs are excluded.
