The United Nations Development Programme is dedicated to eradicating poverty, reducing inequalities, and improving living standards globally. As a key player in this mission, we are seeking a talented intern to join our team and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

About the Role:

This internship offers an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to gain hands-on experience in supporting knowledge generation on SDG local action. The selected candidate will work closely with our Advisor, cities and local government, UN SDG Action Campaign to carry out various duties and responsibilities.

  • Support Knowledge Generation:
    • Conduct research to identify cities and other local governments actively contributing to achieving the SDGs.
    • Contribute to creating and sharing knowledge through networks and communities of practice, helping teams and partners learn from each other.
    • Assist with communication tasks, such as writing press releases, creating social media posts, and organizing events to promote UNDP's work and results.
    • Provide new ideas and suggestions on how to engage local governments in our knowledge and learning initiatives.
    • Identify data for infographics on how cities and local governments implement the SDGs.
  • Support Communications:
    • Contribute to generating news, stories, and other communication assets for publication on the project website.
    • Elaborate the project newsletter and increase the project database of local and regional governments contacts.
  • Support UNDP Activities:
    • Support the delegation of local and regional governments to the High Level Political Forum 2025.
    • Support UNDP contribution to the 8th Local and Regional Governments Forum on July 16th, 2025.

Competencies:

  • Demonstrates commitment to UN's mission, vision, and values.
  • Relevant experience in media events or social media campaigns.
  • Strong oral and written communication ability in English.
  • Full proficiency in Microsoft Office software and other online collaborative tools.
  • Proactive, organized, and self-motivated.
  • Honest, confident, responsible, detail-oriented, patient, and skilled in communicating with others.
  • Curious, willing to learn new things, and share new views with the team.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Major in international relations, social sciences, journalism, communications, marketing, or other relevant fields.
  • Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:
    • Enrolled in a Master's or PhD program.
    • In the final year of a Bachelor's program.
    • Within one year after graduation from a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD program.
    • Or enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertaking the internship as part of this program.
  • Good oral and written communication ability in English.
  • Having extra skills applicable to online/offline communications (i.e., graphic design, photo editing, WeChat layout) will be an asset.
  • Having overseas study experience will be an asset.
  • Interested in local and regional governments' initiatives and their role in achieving global agendas like 2030 Agenda.
  • Ability to use simple design tools, such as Canva.

Benefits:

  • Interns must provide proof of enrollment in health insurance plan and medical certificate of good health prior to starting the internship.
  • Any cost arising from accidents and illness incurred during an internship assignment will be the responsibility of the intern.
  • The stipend will be paid monthly.
  • Interns will have 1.5 days of leave per month.
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed.
