Stateroom Steward/ess

Job Summary:

Viking Cruises is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Stateroom Steward/ess to join our team. As a Stateroom Steward/ess, you will be responsible for providing exceptional housekeeping services to our guests, ensuring their staterooms are clean, comfortable, and well-maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide professional and personalized housekeeping services to guests, including making beds, vacuuming and dusting, cleaning stateroom verandas, bathrooms, toilets, windows, and mirrors, replenishing linens, towels, and room amenities.
• Ensure the general maintenance of staterooms, report any deficiencies for repair and maintenance, and replace stateroom glassware and coffee machines.
• Maintain the confidentiality and security of guest staterooms and handle guest complaints in a professional and courteous manner.
• Make ice deliveries, provide laundry pick-up and delivery, and shoeshine services for guests.
• Handle cleaning products, materials, and housekeeping equipment, separate and remove garbage, and place it in designated containers, ensuring that separation procedures and all Public Health Standards are maintained.
• Participate in luggage duty on embarkation and disembarkation days.
• Participate in daily reunions to understand team operational needs and ensure consistent adherence to Viking's STAR Service Standards.
• Provide the highest level of comfort and service to guests and maintain an impeccable standard of cleanliness and hygiene in assigned areas, as per Viking's STAR Service Standards and all Public Health Policies.
• Proactively prepare service according to guest flow, embarkation and disembarkation, sea day activities, and other activities.
• Ensure the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required for duties onboard and use correct lifting techniques to prevent injuries.
• Uphold impeccable grooming standards at all times, complying with Viking's Image and Uniform Standards.
• Ensure company property is secured and protected, especially during rough weather conditions, to prevent unnecessary loss or damage.
• Demonstrate outstanding flexibility, working at different times of the day, under pressure, and reflecting a positive can-do attitude and the best image of Viking at all times.
• Become knowledgeable about itinerary-related ports of call, shore excursions, and shipboard activities, such as events, entertainment, and programs.
• Have strong motivation to achieve company goals and objectives (quality and financial) for the Housekeeping Department.
• Have full knowledge of safety and security procedures and operate in line with all Public Health, Environmental, and Safety and Security Policies, participating in all training concerning onboard training, safety and security, fire prevention, and evacuation exercises as required by the company.
• Manage stateroom minibars during each cruise, as required by the Executive Housekeeper.
• Assist in other departments and/or perform additional duties upon instruction from supervisors.

Requirements:

• Must have housekeeping experience, cleaning 15-20 rooms twice daily.
• Previous experience working in an operation with high standards of guest services and cleanliness, such as 5-star deluxe ships, is required; previous cruise industry experience is preferred.
• Must be able to do extensive walking and have the ability to stand on feet for a long time; must be able to physically handle 50+ lbs.
• Must have good English communication skills; excellent organizational skills are required.
• Guest-focused, service-oriented, positive personality, professional appearance, and impeccable hygiene standards are required; must be able to deal with confidential information with competence and discretion.
• Must be able to work with various chemicals and cleaning tools; must have excellent knowledge of all Public Health Policies.

Mandatory Requirements and At-Will Employment:

• Ability to provide proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
• Ability to work as necessary to complete all assigned tasks and fulfill responsibilities in your assigned role.
• Ability to meet moderate physical demands, including lifting, bending, climbing, and long periods of standing or walking.
• Ability to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment drug test, including testing for Marijuana and other controlled substances. Viking Cruises is a Drug-Free Workplace.
• Viking Cruises is an At-Will Employer. As such, your employment with Viking is a voluntary one and is subject to termination with or without cause or notice, at any time by you or Viking. • Willing and able to work 10-12 weeks straight on the ship followed by 3 weeks vacation. (Schedule and rotation may fluctuate depending on occupancy and staffing needs).

• Ensure appropriate appearance and clothing according to the updated Grooming Standards.
