About the Role

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced IT professional to join our team at our Basel location. As a Senior IT Solutions Specialist, you will play a crucial part in developing, supporting, and managing IT solutions for biological research and development across human and animal health globally.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in IT support for research and development systems, specifically in the biopharmaceutical industry. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and Java, database technology like PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, and Oracle, and operation systems including Linux and Windows is essential.

You will collaborate closely with research scientists, IT experts, and external vendors to enhance business processes and efficiency of R&D activities. Your primary responsibilities will include providing IT consultancy and operational support, taking on system analyst or system engineer roles, and maintaining productive relationships with key business contacts.

Responsibilities
  • Provide expert IT consultancy and operational support to research scientists worldwide, focusing on three business units in Switzerland
  • Assume the role of system analyst or system engineer for IT solutions, encompassing system configuration, design, and development
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key business contacts
  • Actively collaborate with IT service teams, research units, and external vendors for stable support and maintenance of our IT system landscape
  • Analyze trends, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions
  • Design, architect, and implement IT services, systems, or components following the defined BI process framework for complex systems and software in your area
  • Lead and participate in global product/project teams
  • Offer maintenance, optimization, innovation, and 3rd-level support for implemented and/or assigned solutions
  • Troubleshoot escalated system problems
  • Take on System Lead (and/or Software Lead) responsibilities for complex systems
  • Determine documentation requirements and create documentation as needed to support baseline and project activities
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred
  • Proven experience in IT support for research and development systems, particularly in the biopharmaceutical industry
  • Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java) and database technology (e.g., PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle), as well as operation systems (e.g., Linux, Windows)
  • Experience with IT project management and relevant certifications (e.g., CPI, Scrum) a plus
  • Fluency in English and German (oral and written)
  • Ability to work effectively independently or as part of a team, exhibit proactive behavior, and demonstrate strong communication skills
