Job Summary

Join ABB's R&D team as a Research Team Manager and lead a team of researchers in the field of power electronic systems. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for guiding and developing the team, showcasing strategic priorities, and ensuring the team's future growth.

About the Role

This is a full-time position that reports to the R&D Department Lead. Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Managing and leading a research team of approximately 10 members.
  • Planning a result-oriented project portfolio for the team, including administrative financial control.
  • Contributing to and networking with technical bodies relevant to ABB R&D, inside and outside the company.
  • Developing and acquiring competencies needed for the development of future products and systems.
  • Lab responsibility, including safety, ensuring employees are trained and enabled to perform experimental work safely.

Qualifications

Solid skills and a proven track record in industrial research and development with a minimum of 3 years of experience in managing projects. Experience in leading teams is advantageous. You are passionate about new fields of research and technology and particularly about managing and developing highly skilled people in such an environment.

You are familiar with both laboratory work and using simulation tools, maintaining an eagerness to keep up with trends in power electronics, as well as with modern leadership skills. Display an advanced understanding of power electronic systems, having expertise in at least one of the topics of reliability, EMC/Magnetics, control, and a willingness to learn on the others.

A Master's degree or higher in Engineering or Physics, with expertise in power electronics is required. Having a PhD in the field of power electronics is advantageous. Effective communication skills in English are necessary, coupled with an interest in dynamic engagement within a multidisciplinary environment. Knowledge of German is beneficial but not required.

You hold a Swiss specific VISA/work permit, or you are eligible for one.
