About the Job

We're seeking a skilled engineer or applied physicist to join our team and contribute to the development of innovative Silicon Photonics solutions for particle physics detectors and accelerators.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Electronics Engineering or Applied Physics, with experience in working with instrumentation used to characterize electronic and photonic circuits. Proven expertise in Silicon Photonics Technology and a proven track record of collaboration with colleagues and external partners are essential.

You'll be part of a dynamic team that has decades of experience in bringing optical communications technology to the CERN detector environment. Your work will involve conceiving and constructing assemblies of co-packaged Photonics and electronic circuits, as well as learning about the mechanical and thermal constraints of these assemblies.

As a successful candidate, you'll have the opportunity to learn from industry experts and stay up-to-date with the latest technology innovations in this fast-paced field. You'll also be expected to present your work orally at various levels within and outside the organization.

About the Position

This 24-month contract (with a possible extension up to 36 months) involves working in Radiation Areas and requires a valid driving license. The estimated monthly stipend is between CHF 6,212 and CHF 6,828 (net of tax), and you'll enjoy comprehensive health coverage, pension benefits, and paid leave.

Requirements
  • A Master's degree with 2-6 years of post-graduation professional experience in Electronics Engineering or Applied Physics
  • Or a PhD with no more than 3 years of post-graduation professional experience in the same fields
  • Familiarity with optical ray tracing software, such as Zemax
