Position DetailsThe Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, along with the Institute of Sports Sciences (ISSUL), is seeking to enhance its academic team by recruiting a:
Assistant Professor at Tenure-Track or Associate Professor in Sociology of Gender and Sport
Contractual InformationStart Date: To be agreed upon
Contract Duration: Initial 2 years, with the possibility of two renewals. Following the fourth year, an evaluation will be conducted for tenure consideration at the associate professor level. Alternatively, a 6-year renewable contract is available.
Workload: 100%
ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be responsible for:
Teaching (45%)
Delivering six hours of instruction weekly throughout the academic year at both Bachelor's and Master's levels, along with supervising Master's theses and PhD dissertations.
Research (45%)
The appointee will engage in research focused on the sociology of gender and sport, collaborating with international sports organizations prevalent in the local context. They are expected to produce publications of international academic standards.
Collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Sports Research (CIR Sport) and the forthcoming Global Observatory for Gender Equality & Sport (UNESCO) is also anticipated.
Additionally, the candidate will seek external funding, particularly from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).
Administrative Duties (10%)
In line with statutory obligations and collegial principles, the appointee will undertake any administrative responsibilities assigned by the Institute, Faculty, University, or relevant decision-making bodies.
QualificationsThe ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- PhD in social sciences, sport sciences, or a related field;
- Experience in academic teaching within the sociology of gender and sport;
- Demonstrated research accomplishments in the sociology of gender and sport;
- Established connections with international research networks in the discipline;
- Proven ability to secure external research funding;
- Fluency in both French and English, with strong oral and written communication skills;
- Capability to teach in French within a two-year timeframe.
