We are seeking a highly skilled Patent Counsel - Data Science Expert to join our team at DSM. As a key member of our Intellectual Property department, you will play a critical role in supporting the development of our patent portfolio and managing the patent lifecycle in the rapidly evolving field of data science applied to nutrition, health, and beauty.
About the Role:
- Raise awareness across the innovation community about patent opportunities in data science and work closely with inventors and technology teams to identify patentable inventions in data science as it applies to our industry.
- Work under the supervision of a European Patent Attorney and complete European Patent Attorney qualification.
- Collaborate with cross-business teams to develop and implement a data science IP strategy aligned with business goals, drafting and prosecuting high-quality global patent applications.
- Analyze prior art to assess patentability and/or validity of DSM and/or third-party patents and to assess freedom-to-operate of products or technologies in the area of data science.
- Stay abreast of industry trends, legal developments, and changes in patent law affecting data science.
- Cultivate across the DSM organization a mindset of continuous learning about the latest developments in IP related to data science.

Requirements:
- Master's Degree or PhD in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related discipline.
- Partial/full EQE qualification preferred.
- Experience in patent drafting/prosecution and/or patent searching in data science or related discipline would be a plus.
- Ability to quickly understand and articulate complex technical concepts.
- Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills to contribute to the development of intellectual property strategy.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and time management skills as well as the ability to build trust-based working relationships across the organization.
