About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled PhD Researcher to join our team at D-BAUG - IBI - CEA, where you will play a key role in advancing our research in digital inventory methods for building stock in circular construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth research on digital inventory techniques to capture relevant parameters for assessing building condition, safety, quality, and environmental sustainability.
  • Collaborate with our interdisciplinary team to develop and implement digital solutions for large-scale reuse of building materials, ensuring seamless integration with our existing research projects.
  • Utilize surveying, reality capture (photogrammetry, LiDAR, etc.), computer vision, and machine learning techniques to identify and catalog building components during demolition processes, with a focus on optimizing material reuse strategies.
  • Analyze data collected from construction sites to predict material reuse potential, minimize waste, and inform evidence-based decision-making.
  • Contribute to the development of scientific publications based on research findings and participate in conferences and site visits, showcasing our team's expertise in the field.
  • Work closely with industry partners and stakeholders to ensure the practical application of research outcomes in real-world construction projects, driving innovation and sustainability in the built environment.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline.
  • Strong background in digital technologies, reality capture, machine learning, and/or computer vision, with a proven track record of applying these skills in construction research.
  • Experience with data analysis, programming languages (e.g., Python, R), and software tools commonly used in construction research, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work effectively in a collaborative research environment, with a strong emphasis on teamwork and stakeholder engagement.
  • Prior research experience in sustainable construction, circular economy, or related fields is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
