Genomics Research Assistant for Next-Generation Sequencing

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to support our cutting-edge research projects in ultra-long read sequencing. As a key member of the Animal Genomics Group, you will play a crucial role in developing and implementing wet lab protocols and workflows to collect and analyze massive third-generation sequencing data.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and optimize wet lab protocols for ultra-long sequencing data collection from various tissue sources and blood samples.
  • Collaborate with our sequencing facility to ensure robust protocols and stable sequencing yields.
  • Access and utilize ONT and PacBio technologies to generate high-quality data.
  • Contribute to the bioinformatic analysis of generated data and participate in user group meetings and conferences to stay up-to-date with the latest developments in the field.
  • Support the teaching of existing courses and contribute to the development of novel lab-focused offers in the Agricultural Sciences study program at ETH.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the wet lab, including DNA and RNA purification and QC.
  • Experience with either ONT or PacBio sequencing is a prerequisite.
  • Strong interest in applying state-of-the-art sequencing technologies to address scientific questions in an academic environment.
  • Closely work with doctoral and postdoctoral researchers to support their projects.
  • Hold a Bsc, Msc, or PhD degree in a relevant discipline.
