About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Construction Underwriter to join our team. As a Construction Underwriter, you will play a critical role in analyzing and managing the risks associated with construction projects. You will work closely with clients, producers, and trading partners to develop and maintain relationships and identify opportunities for cross-selling.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and structure tailor-made solutions by considering the Construction Underwriting strategy and Underwriting policy to win new business and retain existing customers.
  • Proactively foster positive relationships with clients to gain a mutual understanding of their needs.
  • Advise, assist, and service clients on insurance and risk management matters to ensure client satisfaction and respond to client and AXA XL queries in a timely manner.
  • Assess risks technically, evaluate appropriate risk premium by considering the risk costs inherent to the Construction Sector, reinsurance cessions as well as the underwriting and general administration costs to ensure profitability.
  • Initiate opportunities for cross-selling.
  • Ensure proper hand-over for timely implementation of new and renewed accounts according to AXA XL's quality standards (including policy-, invoice- and endorsement issuance).
  • The Underwriter Construction may have a responsibility for the development of skills, knowledge, and competencies of less experienced colleagues.
  • They will develop best practice and the sharing of underwriting knowledge within the team.
Requirements
  • Excellent team player with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Engineer ETH/FH with thorough technical knowledge of underwriting, rating methodologies, forms, and business processes.
  • Insurance-related experience as a Construction/Engineering Underwriter is a plus.
  • Basic understanding of global and domestic construction underwriting.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, further language skills are a plus.
  • Excellent marketing, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships with customers, producers, and trading partners.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Very good knowledge of the Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
  • Willingness to work flexible and to travel.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills, efficient and able to work independently by structuring the path forward.
