Job Summary

The Université de Lausanne is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Petroleum Engineering Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for providing expert technical advice and guidance in the field of petroleum engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice and assistance on engineering and/or operating problems relating to petroleum engineering.
  • Specify design criteria and relevant operating parameters for development of new projects within the field of petroleum engineering.
  • Participate in project technical report out and/or reviews.
  • Develop and review proposals for new or changed operating procedures to ensure efficient and economic solutions.
  • Conduct economic studies on cost analysis as appropriate to resolve alternative causes of action relative to petroleum engineering.
  • Identify operational best practices relevant to the Université de Lausanne.
  • Originate ideas for improvements, develop a basis for required field testing and management review, analyze results and recommend new or changed procedures and/or facilities.
  • Recommend, design, and oversee suitable outside investigations to resolve problems which exceed current engineering knowledge in petroleum engineering.
  • Represent the Université de Lausanne in technical contacts with stakeholders and partners dealing with company procedures or proposed operations relative to petroleum engineering.
  • Makes presentations to management, to stakeholders, or to various technical meetings, as appropriate.
  • Represent the Université de Lausanne in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, outside consultants, etc. within the field of petroleum engineering.
  • Conduct seminars, prepare manuals, and train and develop engineers and operating personnel in petroleum engineering.
  • Conduct technology scouting, collaborate with operations partners in the field of petroleum engineering for field test or implementation pilot, analyze subsequent results as required.
  • Participate in technical societies and technical groups in petroleum engineering; represent the Université de Lausanne on industry committees or specialized groups as appropriate.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • BS in engineering or equivalent technical field; MS or PhD is desirable, but not required; intensive industry training including appropriate specialized courses and seminars is expected.
  • Typically has ten (10) years of related experience including at least the last five (5) years in intensive experience in petroleum engineering.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Must be clearly recognized by both supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in petroleum engineering. Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to work effectively with others, and to utilize his/her technical knowledge to achieve practical results. Supervisors and management must have confidence in his/her judgment and recommendations. Additionally, because of prior contacts and/or industry recognition, stakeholders, partners and other outside contacts should also recognize his/her technical expertise. He/she must be able to represent the Université de Lausanne effectively in such contacts and command technical respect.
  • Must possess good work ethic and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
  • Understanding of artificial lift systems; lift design strategies, implementation, start-up, optimization, production challenges, monitoring, troubleshooting and re-design for ESP, pumpjack, gas lift and plunger lift systems.
  • Experience in well completion design, well workovers/interventions, sand control, scale mitigation, artificial lift selection, equipment landing depths, production optimization and water management.
  • Understanding of the Université de Lausanne's culture and values.
  • Ability to:
    • Confidently discuss moderately complex issues with managers and use influence and coaching.
    • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, persuasion, and communication skills (verbal, presentation and listening) to interact with senior management and colleagues regarding administrative issues, document, and systems processes.
    • Coordinate competing demands and quickly assimilate information and build solutions to the optimal balance of meeting business needs and operating within financial resource constraints.
    • Analyze and interpret data and make recommendations.
    • Prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, reports and presentations.
    • Handle confidential or sensitive information or issues.
    • Familiar with oil and gas software applications (e.g., CMG, Resfrac, GOHFER, Petrel, SandCade, FracCADE, PIPESIM).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the Université de Lausanne's operations and procedures.
  • Experience working in a similar role at a university or research institution.
