Petroleum Engineering Consultant

Houston, TX Full Time

Basic Function

Provides expert technical advice and guidance in petroleum engineering, reviewing reservoir simulation results and assessing complex production operations challenges. Recommends remediation practices and procedures, performs and directs major engineering projects, and coordinates with other engineers.

This position offers opportunities for advancement and provides expertise in various specialized areas, including reservoir and production engineering, drilling engineering, and well data base management.

The candidate will handle projects on behalf of Saudi Aramco, represent ASC under various circumstances, and lead a team to solve specific or general problems.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provides expert advice and assistance on engineering and/or operating problems.
  • Specifies design criteria and relevant operating parameters for new projects.
  • Participates in project technical report out and/or reviews.
  • Develops and reviews proposals for new or changed operating procedures.
  • Conducts economic studies on cost analysis.
  • Identifies operational best practices relevant to Saudi Aramco.
  • Originates ideas for improvements and develops a basis for required field testing and Management review.
  • Recommends, designs, and oversees suitable outside investigations to resolve problems.
  • Represents ASC and Saudi Aramco in technical contacts with Shareholders and SAG representatives.
  • Makes presentations to ASC Management, Shareholder Program Review, or various Shareholder Technical Meetings.
  • Represents ASC and Saudi Aramco in dealings with manufacturers, vendors, outside consultants, etc.
  • Conducts seminars, prepares manuals, and trains and develops Aramco engineers and operating personnel.
  • Participates in technical societies and technical groups; represents Aramco on industry committees or specialized groups as appropriate.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • BS in engineering or equivalent technical field; MS or PhD is desirable.
  • Typically, has at least fifteen (15) years of related experience, including ten (10) years of intensive experience in his/her specialty.
  • Must be able to communicate and comprehend both orally and in writing, accurately, clearly and concisely in English at the high level required to perform the job as outlined.
  • Must be clearly recognized by both his/her supervisors and colleagues as thoroughly qualified and highly competent in his/her area of expertise.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to communicate ideas clearly to work effectively with others, and to utilize his/her technical knowledge to achieve practical results.
  • Must possess good work ethic and be able to adhere to company work hours, policies, and standard business etiquette.
  • Understanding of artificial lift systems, lift design strategies, implementation, start-up, optimization, production challenges, monitoring, troubleshooting, and re-design for ESP, pumpjack, gas lift, and plunger lift systems.
  • Experience in well completion design, well workovers/interventions, sand control, scale mitigation, artificial lift selection, equipment landing depths, production optimization, and water management.
  • Understanding of Saudi Arab culture if relevant in assigned area.
  • Ability to:
    • Confidently discuss moderately complex issues with managers and use influence and coaching.
    • Demonstrate effective interpersonal, persuasion, and communication skills (verbal, presentation, and listening) to interact with senior management and colleagues regarding administrative issues, document, and systems processes.
    • Coordinate competing demands and quickly assimilate information and build solutions to the optimal balance of meeting business needs and operating within financial resource constraints.
    • Analyze and interpret data and make recommendations.
    • Prepare accurate, effective, complete, and easily understood written communications, reports, and presentations.
    • Handle confidential or sensitive information or issues.
    • Familiar with oil and gas software applications (e.g., CMG, Resfrac, GOHFER, Petrel, SandCade, FracCADE, PIPESIM).
