Commodity Trading Operations Specialist

For a leading commodity trading company based in Switzerland, this frontline operations role offers the opportunity to develop your skills and expertise.

The successful candidate will be responsible for all operational tasks of a contract or shipment, including supplier and sales contract negotiation, final payments, and closing contracts.

Key Responsibilities

This position involves vessel chartering or container shipments in cooperation with the chartering team, organizing rail, truck, and air transport, or releasing material in warehouse.

  • Opening and checking of Letters of Credit (L/C's) for suppliers and receivers, requesting amendments, and negotiating documents for collection of payment.
  • Calculation of metal quantities and foreign currency amounts to be priced.
  • Correspondence on availability of material in production, transit, and stock; documentation, invoicing, payments, client exposure control, and claim handling.
  • Providing full and detailed instructions for proper supervision, assaying, and umpire email exchange and direct contact with traders for contract execution. Issuing profit and loss calculations and controlling client exposures.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you should be a team player with an independent and flexible work attitude, efficient and organized working skills, and ready to adapt to international practices.

  • A strong analytical mindset is essential for success in this position.
  • Familiarity with IT applications, particularly MS Office and Business Objects, is required.
  • A sound educational background, such as a commercial apprenticeship or bachelor's degree, is necessary.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a traffic role, ideally in a commodity trading company, is preferred.
  • Advanced English language skills, both spoken and written, are mandatory. Additional languages are an advantage.
  • A valid SWISS B/C Permit or EU passport holder is required.
About the Opportunity

We estimate the salary for this position to be around CHF 80,000 - CHF 110,000 per year, depending on experience and qualifications.
