Our goal is to identify, understand, and mitigate gender and sex biases in these devices, promoting equitable healthcare outcomes and inclusive device development across diverse patient populations.

The project involves international collaboration with partners in the United Kingdom and Germany, employing a biomedical ethics approach to investigate ethical and social aspects related to sex/gender issues in active implantable medical devices. The research encompasses both theoretical and empirical components, including systematic review, acquisition of quantitative data, stakeholder interview study, and analysis of existing frameworks.

Responsibilities:
  • Conducting a comprehensive systematic review and mapping of the field of active implantable devices
  • Obtaining novel gender-rich quantitative data
  • Conducting and analyzing qualitative stakeholder interviews
  • Continuing education and training in research methods and moral philosophy/ethics
  • Documenting and presenting research findings in English
  • Taking responsibility for various organizational processes
  • Mentoring research assistants, supervising students, and reviewing their contributions
