Economics and Finance Data Analyst

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Engineer to join our team at the University of St. Gallen. As a Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our large dataset, designing and maintaining the server-side of our web application, and collaborating with our front-end developers.
Key Responsibilities- Data Collection and Organization: You will be responsible for collecting and organizing data from various sources, including Compustat, to enhance the quality of our datasets. This involves understanding data structures, selecting relevant data, ensuring data is properly formatted and consistent, and detecting and correcting inaccuracies or errors.
- Data Analysis and Modelling: You will apply statistical and mathematical techniques to explore data, identify patterns and trends, and develop models to support our research.
- Code Development and Testing: You will leverage programming languages such as Python, SQL, and JavaScript to write efficient code that processes and transforms large datasets.
- Data Visualization: You will propose and create visualizations, charts, and reports that communicate complex data analysis results to non-technical stakeholders in a concise manner.
- Server-Side Logic Development: You will create the code and logic that run on the server, handling requests from the client-side of our application.
- Server Infrastructure Management: You will be responsible for deploying and maintaining servers, ensuring they are available, scalable, and secure so that our data can be easily accessed and analyzed.
- Collaboration with Stakeholders: You will collaborate with our front-end developers and other technical roles to provide a seamless and engaging user experience.
- Advanced Knowledge of R, Python, and SQL: You should have a strong understanding of programming languages and data analysis techniques.
- Experience with Financial and Accounting Data: You should have experience working with financial and accounting data, including data structures and data quality.
- Intrinsic Motivation to Solve Complex Problems: You should be motivated to solve complex problems and have a strong desire to learn and improve.
- Effective Communication and Teamwork: You should be able to communicate clearly and provide constructive feedback while contributing to a positive team culture.
- Knowledge of Cloud Computing and DevOps Tools: Previous experience with cloud computing, APIs, and other DevOps tools (Git, Docker, AWS, Unix shell) is an advantage.
