The United Nations Development Programme is seeking an SDG Local Action Program Coordinator to join their team. As a key member of the UN SDG Action Campaign, you will be instrumental in supporting the implementation of Agenda 2030 and accelerating transformative action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for all, everywhere.

About the Role

As an SDG Local Action Program Coordinator, you will work closely with cities and local governments to showcase their contributions to implementing Agenda 2030. Your primary responsibility will be to support knowledge generation on SDG local action by conducting research, identifying cities and local governments that are actively contributing to achieving the SDGs.

You will also contribute to creating and sharing knowledge through networks and communities of practice, helping teams and partners learn from each other. Additionally, you will assist with communication tasks such as writing press releases, creating social media posts, and helping organize events to promote UNDP's work and results.

Your role will involve providing new ideas and suggestions on how to engage local governments in our knowledge and learning initiatives, encouraging creativity, innovation, and proactivity. You will also identify data for infographics on how cities and local governments are implementing the SDGs, familiarizing yourself with data visualization, which is a trend and a priority for UNDP Local Action.

About the Team

The UN SDG Action Campaign is hosted and supported by UNDP and is based in Bonn, Germany. The campaign marshals rapid support for new initiatives as opportunities arise and provides partners with on-demand strategic creative services that inspire SDG action.

The team works closely with cities and local governments to showcase their contributions to implementing Agenda 2030, accelerating transformative action to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals for all, everywhere.

About the Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of the Sustainable Development Goals and their implementation at the local level. You will also need excellent oral and written communication skills in English, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office software and online collaborative tools.

A relevant education in international relations, social sciences, journalism, communications, marketing, or other relevant fields is required. Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

  • Enrolled in a Master's or PhD programme
  • In the final year of a Bachelor's programme
  • Or within one year after graduation from a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD programme
  • Or be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship programme and undertake the internship as part of this programme

Candidates should also have good experience in media events or social media campaigns, as well as overseas study experience. Having extra skills that can be applied to online/offline communications, such as graphic design, photo editing, WeChat layout, etc., will be an asset.
