The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) is a specialized agency of the United Nations that focuses on promoting cooperation in meteorology, hydrology, and related geophysical sciences. The organization has a long history of providing high-quality weather and climate services to its member countries.

The WMO's ICT Section is responsible for providing IT services and supporting platforms and systems. However, the existing resources, capabilities, and skills need to be reassessed to ensure that they are aligned with the organization's strategic objectives.

This is where you come in - as an IT Assessment Expert, you will play a critical role in identifying gaps and opportunities for improving IT services. Your experience and expertise will be invaluable in helping the WMO achieve its goals.

Job Description

This position requires a highly skilled IT professional who can conduct technical assessments, interview key stakeholders, and develop recommendations for enhancing IT capabilities. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of IT governance mechanisms, industry standards, and best practices.

You will be responsible for:

  1. Conducting technical assessments of IT resource utilization, capabilities, and skill levels
  2. Interviewing key stakeholders, including IT personnel and senior management
  3. Developing recommendations for enhancing IT capabilities
  4. Identifying strengths and weaknesses in current IT resources
  5. Evaluating the effectiveness of IT governance mechanisms

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proven experience in assessing and evaluating IT team skills, competencies, and capabilities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and refine IT policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Strong expertise in IT skills assessment methodologies and best practices
  • In-depth understanding of IT service management processes, governance standards, and industry best practices
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills to engage effectively with team members and organizational leadership
