About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Political Affairs Officer to join our team. This role will focus on analyzing political and related events within assigned areas to provide early warning advice to senior leadership.
Main Responsibilities
- Analyze complex political situations and trends to identify potential issues that may impact the internal political situation and the political impact of intra-regional issues.
- Provide analytical reports and papers on sensitive and high-profile matters to inform decision-making by senior UN officials.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance inter-agency coordination and cooperation in conflict prevention, mediation, and peacebuilding initiatives.
- Collaborate with operational teams to design, implement, and review conflict resolution, conflict prevention, mediation, peacebuilding, and sustaining peace initiatives.
- Build and maintain relationships with other sectors of the UN, international organizations, and governments to coordinate policy matters and provide briefings as necessary.
Requirements
- Advanced university degree in political science, international relations, law, public administration, or related field.
- At least seven years of progressively responsible experience in political science, international relations, law, disarmament, security, development management, conflict resolution, or related area.
- Fluency in English or French required, with excellent written and spoken communication skills.

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze complex information and make informed decisions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
