The ICRC's Resource Mobilization Division plays a critical role in securing funding for humanitarian activities worldwide. To achieve this, the division collaborates with various stakeholders, including government agencies, multilateral institutions, National Societies, corporations, foundations, high-net-worth individuals, and the general public.
Within the ICRC, the Clearing House unit facilitates the establishment and maintenance of lasting relationships with donors and partners. This involves negotiating agreements, drafting proposals, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
The Legal Counsel within the Clearing House unit provides expert advice and support to fundraisers and other stakeholders involved in resource mobilization activities. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and advising on contract drafts to ensure alignment with ICRC policies and frameworks.
- Collaborating with subject matter experts to develop coherent and aligned positions.
- Escalating complex issues and coordinating with internal stakeholders to ensure effective resolution.
- Approving contract signatures after thorough review.
- Contributing to developing standards for managing donor and partner engagements.
- Liaising with OCLA on legal matters related to fundraising and providing ad-hoc support as needed.
To succeed in this role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
- A university degree in law, preferably from a reputable institution.
- At least 5 years of experience in corporate law, either in-house or at a law firm, with a multinational focus.
- Strong expertise in contract law, business law, and applicable administrative law.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with proficiency in both spoken and written English.
- Familiarity with international organizations and non-profit sectors is highly desirable.
