CERN is seeking a highly skilled Fibre Optics Technician to join its Electrical Engineering Group. As a key member of the Fibre Optics Section, you will be responsible for ensuring the technical expertise in fibre optics and providing optical structured cabling for multiple systems on the CERN site.
Key Responsibilities- Process optical cabling requests, providing technical advice and managing all steps towards delivery to final users.
- Participate in defining optical fibre link architecture, including duct types, fibres, and connections, and propose original methodologies for optical cabling and tests.
- Organize and supervise optical fibre cabling installations and acceptance tests, ensuring worksite coordination, quality of work, and adherence to CERN safety rules.
- Organize quality control tests of supplied fibre components and execute in-the-field preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair activities.
- Prepare documentation of installations and assure quality data management in the optical fibre database.
- Prepare work progress reports and provide regular presentations on activity status.
- Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in fibre optics or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience in deployment of optical fibre cabling, preferably by air-blowing method.
- Demonstrated experience in testing and measurement of optical fibres.
- Substantial experience in preparation of work files, work supervision, and acceptance of optical installations.
- Proven ability in drawing up technical documentation, including database tools, and reporting.
- Experience in electrical cabling, installation, and test would be an asset.
- Organisation, planning, and control, particularly technical supervision of contractors.
- Quality management of optical fibres cabling and systems.
- Design and development of optical data links, including knowledge of optical cabling techniques and fibre connectors.
- Knowledge and application of instrumentation and measurement techniques in fibre optics.
- Managing Self: working well autonomously, taking on activities and tasks without prompting, and taking initiative beyond regular tasks.
- Achieving Results: having a structured and organised approach towards work, setting priorities, and planning tasks with results in mind.
- Solving Problems: identifying, defining, and assessing problems, taking action to address them.
- Communicating Effectively: demonstrating a proactive approach to resolving differences and addressing issues constructively, providing others with timely information.
- Working in Teams: contributing to promoting a positive atmosphere in the team through an optimistic and constructive attitude and addressing issues.
Spoken and written English. Ability to understand and speak French in professional contexts would be an advantage.
