Introduction
UNIL is a leading public institution of higher education and research in Switzerland. It is composed of seven faculties for a total of approximately 17'000 students and employs around 5'000 researchers, teachers and technical staff. Life sciences and medicine is one of its three main axis or research, together with social and environmental sciences. The hosting laboratory is located in the UNIL medical campus at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV), which has been recently classified as one of the 10-20 best academic hospitals in the world. The hosting laboratory is part of the Swiss Cancer Center Leman network (https://sccl.ch/) and has next-door access to the technological platforms at the Agora cancer research and to the Ludwig Cancer Institute.
Presentation
A postdoctoral position is available at the Laboratory of Regenerative Hematopoiesis, led by Prof. Olaia Naveiras and hosted at both the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Lausanne Faculty of Biology and Medicine (UNIL-FBM, https://wp.unil.ch/naveiras-lab/team/) and the Translational Research Unit of the Hematology Service at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV, https://www.chuv.ch/en/hematologie/hem-home/research/). The project focuses on the role of bone marrow adipocytes in hematopoietic progenitor function, and will integrate mouse models of targeted adipocyte modulation with bioengineered niches.

Your responsibilities
The selected candidate will be exposed in depth to adipocyte, hematopoietic stem cell and marrow stromal niche biology, and synthetic niche development. The candidate would work with one PhD student to be recruited for the project. He/she will integrate the bone marrow adipocyte branch of the lab within a team of one PhD student developing a micro engineered system to reproduce the complexity of the bone marrow niche, and a senior scientist plus third PhD student focusing on the role of bone marrow adipocytes in malignant hematopoiesis.
Your qualifications
- PhD or MD/PhD degree in experimental cell biology or cellular bioengineering
- High degree of autonomy in experimental cell biology (flow cytometry, immunofluorescence, in vivo mouse surgery and colony management) and data analysis are a must
- Expertise in experimental hematology or stem cell biology
- Basic knowledge of bioinformatics (scRNAseq and Mathlab program for imaging pipelines) being a very valuable plus
- Preference will be given to outstanding candidates start in March or April 2025.
- Creativity and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Fluency in English with outstanding oral and written communication skills.
