UN Women, grounded in the vision of equality enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations, works for the elimination of discrimination against women and girls; the empowerment of women; and the achievement of equality between women and men as partners and beneficiaries of sustainable development, human rights, humanitarian action and peace and security.

Geneva is the internationally recognized center of expertise in many priority areas of UN Women’s engagement and in related global issues, including human rights, health, peace and security, labour, economics, trade, migration, humanitarian affairs, disaster risk reduction, science, telecommunications, the environment and sustainable development. In line UN Women’s normative and coordination mandate, the UN Women Office in Geneva engages with intergovernmental processes and a broad range of UN entities and stakeholders in Geneva in these issue areas to effectively contribute to normative advancements towards the full realization of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls and their human rights.

The UN Women Office in Geneva delivers on UN Women’s normative support functions and strengthens linkages between normative work and operational activities. It contributes to the Entity’s support for the development and strengthening of a comprehensive set of global norms, policies and standards on gender equality and women’s empowerment that is dynamic, responds to new and emerging issues, challenges and opportunities and is applied through action by Governments and other stakeholders at all levels.

The UN Women Office in Geneva is organizationally integrated into UN Women’s Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division (PPID). The Division provides global programme and policy support to allow UN Women at Headquarters and in all field locations to deliver effective and efficient initiatives to support the implementation of UN Women’s Strategic Plan based on international goals on gender equality and women’s empowerment, including the Beijing Platform for Action and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The Division provides intellectual and strategic leadership on normative support and the delivery of integrated policy advice, including through policy analysis and gender mainstreaming. The Division leverages innovation, knowledge management, and cutting-edge technical expertise to support UN Women programmes and to build the capacity of partners to deliver results on gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Under the overall supervision of the Director of the Policy, Programme and Intergovernmental Division, and working in close coordination with HQ Sections and other Divisions, the Head of UN Women´s Office in Geneva, will (a) Strategically influence, engage and deepen partnerships with the broad range of stakeholders and intergovernmental processes at UNHQ Geneva on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls; (b) Enhance UN-Women’s global voice for women and girls and establish its leadership role in International Geneva and at UNHQ Geneva to support the accelerated implementation of the Beijing Platform for Action in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; (c) Accelerate operational results for women and girls in sectors covered by the Geneva-based UN entities and intergovernmental processes.

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**Lead the engagement with intergovernmental processes and stakeholders on gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls**:

- Develop and implement an engagement strategy for UN Women in Geneva-based intergovernmental processes to increase attention to gender equality issues;
- Advocate for the inclusion of gender perspectives in the outcomes of intergovernmental processes in all areas of UN Women’s mandate and provide technical advice and inputs for the integration of gender perspectives including through the delivery of statements, organization of events, convening of stakeholders for exchanges of views, and facilitation of consensus-building;
- Lead the engagement with permanent missions, intergovernmental and non-governmental organizations, research and academic institutions in Geneva to strengthen efforts towards the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls.
