The Independent Investigative Mechanism for Myanmar (IIMM) was established by the Human Rights Council in its resolution 39/2, adopted on 27 September 2018. The creation of the Mechanism was welcomed by the General Assembly in its resolution 73/264, adopted on 22 December 2018. This position is located in the Language Support Services Section (LSSS), based in Geneva, Switzerland. The Editor reports to the Deputy Head of the Mechanism.

**Responsibilities**:
Within delegated authority, the Editor will perform the following functions:

- Edits translated texts, audiovisual recordings and other material of a specialized or technical nature in order to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with United Nations standards, policy and practice.
- Plans, organizes and manages the work of the Mechanism’s translation team to ensure the quality and timeliness of the translation and interpretation services provided by the team, taking into account the high sensitivity and confidentiality of information handled and produced by the Mechanism.
- Consults with other Mechanism sections and carries out research to clarify ambiguities and rectify any translation errors.
- Checks his/her language version against the language of the original material, redrafts incorrect or unclear passages and translates and inserts any passage that has been omitted.
- Provides Mechanism sections submitting materials for translation with information on specific aspects of editorial policy and practice.
- Develops protocols and glossaries related to translation and interpretation.
- Reviews and edits translations of information items, evidentiary material and public information products for accuracy.
- Plans, manages and coordinates interpretation services for meetings and investigative activities, as required and may also be called upon to undertake translation/interpretation as needed.
- Performs other related duties as required.

Education
An advanced university degree (Master's degree or equivalent degree) in languages, editorial, proofreading or related field is required. A first-level degree (Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree) in combination with two additional years of relevant work experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of experience in editing, proofreading, revision or translation is required.

At least two years as an editor, proofreader, translator/reviser or verbatim reporter in the United Nations or another international governmental or non-governmental organization is required.

Experience with multilingual translation, editing and/or revision of translated materials is required.

Experience with interpretation is desirable.
